1. Eligibility Criteria
10th Class Secondary course, the candidate must meet the following requirements:
Age Limit: The candidate must have completed 14 years of age. There is typically no upper age limit.
Educational Qualification:
- A self-certificate stating the candidate has the ability to read and write (if they have no formal schooling record) OR
- Failed candidates from Class 9 or 10 (from other boards) can also apply.
2. Scheme of Studies (Subjects)
To obtain the Secondary School Certificate, a student must usually pass in 5 subjects.
Group A (Languages): Students generally must choose at least one or two languages (e.g., Tamil, English, Hindi).
Group B (Core Subjects): Mathematics, Science, Social Science.
Passing Criteria:
A minimum of 35% marks is required in each subject to pass.
3. Examination Pattern
Frequency: Exams are generally conducted twice a year (often in April/May and October/November).
Mode: Written theory exams and online exams for specific subjects.
Admit Card: Released online on the official portal (tamilnaduopenboard.org) 2-3 weeks before the exam.
4. Validity and Benefits
Certification: Successful candidates receive a Mark Sheet and a Passing Certificate.
Flexibility: The biggest advantage is the "Open" nature, meaning no mandatory regular attendance is required. Students study at home using self-learning materials.
Transfer of Credit (TOC): If you have failed in Class 10 from another recognized board (like CBSE or State Board), you may be allowed to transfer the marks of up to two passed subjects to TNSOS, so you don't have to retake them.
TNSOS (Private Board): If you are enrolling with the Tamil Nadu State Open Board School (TNSOS).
Tamil Nadu Open School Board EXAM (Class 10th)
For students appearing for SSLC (10th) through the open schooling system:
